The Christmas countdown for 2024 is well underway, and Electric have been busy crafting festive campaigns for some of the nation’s retailers. From John Lewis’ tale of sisterhood, to Sainsbury’s cherished BFG, let’s unwrap some Christmas highlights…
John Lewis – ‘The Gifting Hour’
Saatchi & Saatchi // François Rousselet (Riff Raff) // Electric
John Lewis’ much anticipated Christmas ad maps one woman’s journey to find her sister the perfect gift. Electric helped her on her merry way, reminiscing over their relationship through a Narnia-esque neverending wardrobe, down some crumbling interiors and amidst a bedroom rainstorm, amongst other VFX elements. Additional charm was added by Electric colourist, Luke Morrison.
Sainsbury’s – ‘The BIG Christmas’
NCA // Sam Brown (Rogue) // Electric
went BIG, for Sainsbury’s Christmas. The BFG stars in this campaign, with team Electric reimagining and animating Roald Dahl’s beloved character into a never-before-seen, 24ft CG giant, friendlier than ever as he whimsically wanders through real life locations in search of that perfect festive spread… Electric colourist, Luke Morrison adds an enchanting touch of colour to this spot which warmed the hearts of the Great British public.
Tesco – ‘Helping Feed Your Christmas Spirit’
BBH // ALASKA (Iconoclast) // Electric
When Tesco dropped their Christmas ad for 2024, the nation took to it quicker than you can say ‘Every Little Helps’. Electric Theatre Collective crafted a gingerbread world for protagonist Gary to reside within, with the festive biscuit changing form throughout to represent themes of nostalgia, tradition and grief. A comprehensive study of gingerbread ensued, developing textures and building animals and humans in biscuit form whilst retaining authenticity. Graded by Jason Wallis, it’s a mixing bowl of practical effects, visual effects and witty easter eggs (gingerbread billboard, anyone?).
Argos – ‘Rockstar’
T&Pm // Michael Gracey (Partizan) // Electric
Doll army meets rock ‘n’ roll T-Rex, for Argos this Christmas. Company mascots Connie the doll and Trevor the dinosaur star in OG rockstar Michael Gracey’s vision, set to a cover of a T-Rex banger. Graded by Electric Luke Morrison, the CG team had an arena’s worth of character modelling up their sleeve, all seamlessly composited into place – the perfect gig for our 2D crew.
Marks & Spencer – ‘Christmas Starts Here’
Mother // Elliott Power (Love Song) // Electric
Electric’s Jason Wallis adds additional sparkle in the form of a stunning colour grade, for Marks & Spencer’s Christmas clothing and home campaign. Party season is well and truly upon us.
John Lewis – ‘Give Knowingly’
Saatchi & Saatchi // Chris Hewitt (Knucklehead)
The second chapter of John Lewis’ Christmas trilogy, this one champions the thought behind the perfect gift, and follows the life adventures for one woman’s daughter, all the while clad in her trusty pink jumper. Mother knows best indeed. Graded by Jason Wallis.
